This September, CASA Partners 4NMKIDS had the privilege of taking part in the 23rd International Summit on Violence, Abuse, and Trauma held in San Diego. Volunteer coordinators Sandra Sanchez Ortiz and Kate Yilek had the opportunity to learn from various professionals in the field about trauma informed care, community violence prevention, and the long term effects of adverse childhood experiences among other specialties, while taking advantage of networking with colleagues and learning about self care opportunities.
Our professional staff at CASA Partners 4NMKIDS is committed to learning about and implementing the latest research in our child advocacy. The research communicated to peers at the IVAT conference illustrates the difficult path before us, but growing knowledge in this manner leads to more effective advocacy. There is a path forward to treatment and even prevention for our most vulnerable children and families. Sandra and Kate are looking forward to sharing their new knowledge with our CASA volunteers and the greater community that we serve!
